McDonnell Reading and Book Signing on June 21
EAST CRAFTSBURY – The Galaxy Bookshop and the J.W. Simpson Memorial Library will hold a reading and book signing on Tuesday, June 21, at 7 p.m., in the East Craftsbury Presbyterian Church to welcome author Christine McDonnell for an event celebrating “Sanctuary,” her new picture book biography of Kip Tiernan. Kip Tiernan was the founder of the nation’s first shelter for women. In honor of Tiernan’s legacy of generosity, audience members are invited to bring a non-perishable food item, toiletry item or personal hygiene product to donate to The Craftsbury Food Share, the new satellite site of the Hardwick Area Food Pantry.
Christine McDonnell lives in Craftsbury, and is the author of a dozen books for young readers. “Sanctuary: Kip Tiernan and Rosie’s Place, the Nation’s First Shelter for Women,” written by McDonnell and illustrated by Victoria Tentler-Krylov, introduces readers to Kip Tiernan and the experiences that led her to create Rosie’s Place, a women’s shelter in Boston. “Sanctuary” has received starred reviews from The Horn Book, BookPage, and Kirkus Reviews.
This event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 472-5533 or visit galaxybookshop.com for a full schedule of events.
