Learn to Search Online Newspapers August 10

HARDWICK – The Hardwick Historical Society will present a class on “How to Search the Hardwick Gazette and Other Vermont Newspapers Online … for Free!” at the Hardwick Depot on Wednesday, Aug. 10, beginning at 5 p.m. Elizabeth Dow, a retired librarian and archivist who spent about a dozen years searching online sources for a living, will lead the class. It will address the following issues: how to create a question in your mind, how to ask that question using the search software, and how to read the results the system gives you.

While the historical society will not charge for the class, the Depot has limited space and the class can accommodate no more than 12 people. To join the class, participants must have a computer that will work on its battery for at least three hours and an account with MyVermont.gov, which makes the searching free.

Newspapers provide a resource for genealogists, historians and the curious. To register, email info@hardwickvthistory.org.
