GREENSBORO – The Greensboro United Church of Christ (GUCC) raised almost $1,000 for reproductive freedom from its August 5 Indian take-out dinner. Under the leadership of Sonia Dunbar and Cara Hill, many local volunteers prepared chicken and tomato Balti (similar to a curry, but not spicy) served over brown Basmati rice, Dahl with squash and mixed vegetable raita (cucumber, tomato and onion).
Preparation of the vegetables and chicken began August 3, with final cooking August 5, in time for grab-n’-go pickup. This was the third cultural food event in two months for Sonia and Cara following their GUCC June 10 dinner of Afghan and Ukrainian food to benefit refugees from those two countries.
The meal was to benefit “girlup.org,” a global effort to empower girls in 130 countries and all 50 states, and “Vermont Access to Reproductive Freedom” which provides financial aid to Vermonters seeking an abortion (vermontaccess.org).
