Break In and Suspicion of DUI

On August 22 at 0107 hours, the Vermont State Police responded to the Fairways and Greens located at the Country Club of Barre for a reported break in. Investigation revealed an unknown suspect forced entry through a window into the business. Troopers responded to the scene and met with the owners of Fairways and Greens as well as Country Club Staff.

Fairways and Greens provided surveillance video to the State Police. The suspect is described as a medium build white male. The suspect was wearing a dark shirt with the words “Old Navy” on the chest, blue jeans, a dark colored hat and a blue face covering. The suspect stole change from two registers totaling approximately five dollars, as well as an Apple watch and a crow bar. The suspect then attempted to gain entry into the Country Club of Barre pro shop and ultimately left the property without getting into the pro shop.

On August 24 at 0115 hours, State Police stopped a vehicle for a speeding violation. The operator, Edmund Thornton, of Woodbury, was showing signs of impairment and subsequently taken into custody for suspicion of DUI. A record check showed he had an active arrest warrant from Pennsylvania. Thornton was taken to the State Police Barracks in Berlin for processing and was later released. He is scheduled to appear in Washington County Superior Court – Criminal Division on August 25.
