Board Schedules Rail Trail Site Visit

WALDEN – The Walden Select Board met on August 29. Judy Clifford reported on Fall Foliage Day progress. There have been additional local participants who will be opening their businesses to visitors for the day. The town website has a list of participants.

The Town Clerk Debbie Messier reported the scheduled trail head site visit will occur October 6, at 9 a.m. The Select Board will meet with the Vermont Agency of Transportation, Rail Trails. The town is interested in developing local trail access with parking, picnic tables and outhouses.

She also reported that rb Technologies completed the upgrade of cyber security and internet services. Installment of new equipment should help with loss of internet service to the firehouse.

Messier said that every five years the town is required to write a new Local Hazard Mitigation Plan. Lina Smith had applied for a grant to pay for the hiring of an individual to help the town with this process. The grant has been approved and the town is ready to put the job out to bid. The Select Board approved putting this out to bid.

Other business was a discussion of a possible Town Meeting Article. This would be to ask for a property purchase for a new municipal building.

Present at the meeting were Brenda Huntoon, Randolph Wilson, Debbie Messier and Judy Clifford. The next meeting is September 26, at 6:30 p.m.
