CRAFTSBURY — Former teammates Ruth Krebs (St. Johnsbury) and Anika Leahy (Craftsbury Academy-CA) skied together recently over a full 5km race course with Krebs winning by two seconds in 16:13. With enough newly fallen snow, racers from eight teams were able to ski on the more challenging race course at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center. Amelia Circosta (Hazen Union) placed third with Ave Purdy 23 (St. Johnsbury) and Sadie Skorstad 35 (CA) out of 61 starters. U32 took the team win ahead of St. Johnsbury, MMU, CVU, Peoples Academy, and BFA Fairfax. In the boys varsity race, Sage Grossi (Montpelier – 14:12) edged out Leo Circosta (Hazen) by four seconds. Cormac Leahy (CA) was sixth with Charlie Krebs 10 (St. J), Alan Moody 21 (CA), and Max Demaine 33 (Lake Region) of the 59 starters. Charlie Kehler was in the lead pack at the 3.5 km mark when he took a fall around a sharp corner. With the wind knocked out of him, he played it safe and called it quits for the day. In the team scores MMU finished ahead of CVU, Montpelier, St. J, BFA Fairfax, People’s Academy, and U-32. The CA boys and girls did not have enough skiers for team scores.

In the middle school races, Kate Carlson (MMU) won in 7:25 on the 2.4 km course. CA’s growing team included Jenner Brooks, Oryon Hart, Stig Link, Aemelia Terrone, and Ada Alan. Two Hazen Union students raced including Ava Stratman and Ursa Goldenrose with Maeda Urie from Albany also entering. There were 74 starters in the MS race.

Craftsbury Marathon Takes Place on 18.5 km Loop

CRAFTSBURY — Hundreds of people young and old took to the newly fallen snow to race in the Craftsbury Outdoor Center marathon two-day event on January 28 to January 29. On day-one, two Craftsbury Green Racing Project (GRP) alumni returned to win both the women’s and men’s 37 km classic race.
