RICHFORD – The Twinfield-Cabot softball team sandwiched a win against Craftsbury Academy (CA) around a pair of losses to a red-hot Richford team last week, leaving their record at 2-4 on the season.
Talia McCray belted a double, triple, and drove in three to lead Richford to a 25-1 home win over the Lady Trojans last Tuesday. Kyrielle Deuso struck out seven over five innings to earn the win in the circle and Vanessa Cunningham added a double and drove in two on the day. Maddi Duke took the loss for Twinfield-Cabot and Danville’s Kendall Hale struck out four in relief. Duke drove in Kimlinh DeBona for their lone run.
“We definitely had a tough time hitting Deuso, but Kimmi gave us our only run with some aggressive base running and a good sac bunt from Maddi,” said co-head coach Christin Martin.
Kendall Hale blasted a home run in the seventh inning to break open a close game to lead Twinfield-Cabot to an 18-10 road win over Craftsbury Academy last Thursday. Hale, Austin Roos, Duke, and Aydyn Corbett powered a balanced attack with multiple hits and RBI’s to help lead the Lady Trojans to their second win of the season. Duke was also solid in the circle, earning the win, relieved by Danville’s Ella Marshia late in the game.
“We had a great competitive game both offensively and defensively and Kendall’s homerun really helped cinch the win late. Aleacya Moshinskie made a critical catch in left field for us with one out in the seventh, preventing a late CA rally,” said Martin.
Talia McCray struck out eight over five innings to help Richford complete the home and home sweep 20-4 over the Lady Trojans at Danville over the weekend. The Lady Rockets jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back, winning their fifth game in six tries. The 5-2 Lady Rockets lost a heartbreaker to West Rutland in the 2022 Division IV state title game and look poised to make another deep playoff run this season. Kendall Hale had seven strikeouts for Twinfield-Cabot in the loss and Phoebe Crocker added a double.
Before the game, legendary Danville softball coach Paul Remick was honored with the field being renamed Paul Remick Field. Remick’s storied program was unable to field a team for the first time this spring, leading to a co-op with Twinfield-Cabot. Remick had led the Danville program to eight consecutive Division IV Final Four appearances before this season, winning six state championships along the way. Ella Marshia, Phoebe Crocker, Kendall Hale, and Austin Roos play for the Lady Trojans this season.
“Kendall pitched a solid complete game for us and we were able to get more action on the basepaths in this matchup. Phoebe jump-started us offensively with an amazing double to left field,” said Martin.
Twinfield-Cabot was back in action on Tuesday with a match-up against Northfield and will host powerhouse Blue Mountain on Thursday. Their junior varsity team hosted North Country on Monday and will welcome Montpelier to town on Wednesday.
