Monaco Modifieds Begin Season with the Granite City 100

BARRE – After a stellar debut last season, the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series is returning to Thunder Road International Speedbowl for the second annual Granite City 100 as part of the Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic on Sunday, May 28. The $10,000-to-win event is once again drawing the top Tour-type Modified talent to Barre in spectacular fashion to kick off the series’ 10th anniversary season.

Starting out as a three-race series for open competition Tour-type Modified teams in the Northeast back in 2014, the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series has grown to be one of the most popular series for these 600-plus horsepower open-wheeled beasts. The pageantry, talent and professionalism of the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series easily rivals the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour in just nine years of competition in New England.

Already at post time today, the Monaco Modifieds are boasting a 20-car entry list led by inaugural Granite City 100 winner Chase Dowling. Stafford Spring Sizzler winner Ronnie Silk, Thompson Icebreaker 125 winner Ronnie Williams, multi-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Champion Doug Colby, hot-shoe Mike Christopher Jr. and the “Sultan of Stafford” Woody Pitkat are also included in the lineup.

“We knew that afternoon last May that [the Monaco Modifieds] would be back again this year,” said Thunder Road managing partner Cris Michaud. “Between Wayne [Darling], Ed [Bennett] and myself it was a no-brainer with the talent-filled car count and the fans in the stands. All of us at Thunder Road are beyond excited to have them back, especially to help them kick-off their special 10-year anniversary season!”

The 125-lap Memorial Day Classic for the Late Models kicks off their 2023 King of the Road track championship season with the winner earning their right to have their name etched in stone alongside legends. The ground-pounding Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series also returns for the second annual Granite City 100 for the Tour-type Modifieds plus the Flying Tigers, Street Stocks and Scrap Metal Road Warriors also join the line-up for the event on Memorial Day weekend.
