Offense Explodes for Lady Trojans in Huge Week
by Ken Brown
MARSHFIELD – The bats came alive for the Twinfield-Cabot-Danville (TCD) softball team last week as they swept past Peoples Academy (PA) and Craftsbury Academy (CA) to get to the plus side in the win column for the season at 6-5.
Kendall Hale belted four hits and struck out seven to earn the win in the circle to power the Lady Trojans to a 25-12 home win over PA last Tuesday. Aydyn Paige led a 24-hit attack with a perfect 6-6 performance at the plate and Sophia Mancini and Hannah Haverick were also tough outs for TCD, each going 4-5 on the day. Aleacya Moshinskie and Hale blasted back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the sixth and Maddi Duke and Ella Marshia added triples to put the game away late for the Lady Trojans. Hazen Union’s Sarah Collier led PA with three hits and Haley Michaud suffered the loss in the circle, striking out four and walking six.
“We had a good game against PA, with Kendall and Ella throwing strikes until we finally got our bats and base running going in the sixth inning. The girls worked some good at bats in that inning to drive in 10 runs and we made some good defensive plays late in the game to carry over that momentum. Aleacya made a great throw from behind the plate to Ella to cut down one of their runners trying to steal second to help kill a late rally,” said co-head coach Christin Martin.
Duke kept the offense going over the weekend with three more hits, including a triple and struck out seven to earn the complete game victory in a 14-12 home win over the Lady Chargers. Kimlinh DeBona blasted a two-run homer, Ella Marshia went 3-4 with a pair of doubles, and Hannah Haverick added a pair of hits to fuel the red-hot TCD offense. Savannah Boyce paced CA with three hits and three walks and Ella Gillespie added a pair of hits. Boyce took the loss in the circle for the Lady Chargers, striking out seven and walking eight. Mancini made the play of the game in center field, snagging the final out in the top of the seventh with the bases loaded to secure the win.
“Our game over the weekend was a nail-biter and Maddi did a good job of throwing strikes and fielding her position to make some crucial outs. Kimlinh, Ella, and Hannah had some big hits to keep our offense going and Sophia made a great game saving catch to end a big rally for them. We were really happy with how the girls kept their heads up all week and continue to work hard throughout the season to get better,” said Martin.
The Lady Trojans have vaulted up the Division IV standings with their recent play and are now in position to host a home playoff game with four games remaining in the regular season. They hosted Thetford Academy on Monday, traveled to Williamstown on Tuesday, and will stay on the road against BFA-Fairfax and Randolph on Thursday and Saturday to wrap up a busy week.
