HARDWICK – The Hardwick Town House and Elley-Long Music Center in Colchester, will be filled once more this July and August with the sounds of chamber music on summer evenings.

The Craftsbury Chamber Players is a partnership of musicians and community dedicated to making live chamber music an enduring part of community culture.

The 2023 concert series begins on July 12 and July 13 with a work by Franz Joseph Haydn that is viewed by history as having ushered in the new 18th-century romantic esthetic of “sturm und drang” in music. It ends on August 16 and August 17 with music of Johannes Brahms that is a monument of both classical musical structure and passionate romanticism.

The musical journey of the six weeks in between is all over the map, featuring new works by local resident artists Kenji Bunch and Inessa Zaretsky; masterworks of Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Dvorak, and Brahms; and pieces by less-familiar composers old and new, including Michael Fiday, Caroline Shaw, Grazyna Bacewicz, Witold Lutosławski, and Dame Ethel Smyth.

Concerts will take place on Wednesdays at Elley-Long in Colchester and Thursdays at the Hardwick Town House, from July 12 through August 17. All concerts are at 7:30 p.m., with a brief pre-concert chat with an artist at 6:45 p.m.

Free mini concerts for children are at 2 p.m., in the Hardwick area. Locations will rotate with more information online and to be announced in Burlington.
