Greensboro Celebrates Funky Fourth with Parade, Pie Auction, Concert and Dancing

GREENSBORO – Greensboro’s Funky Fourth is almost never celebrated on the Fourth of July. This year Greensboro’s now Funky Fourth parade will kick off at 10 a.m., on Saturday, July 1. The parade will feature the National Guard Band, the Bread and Puppet Theater, family and organizational floats, farm equipment and trucks, tractors and vehicles of all types. The king and queen of the parade will be riding in Clive Gray’s Pierce Arrow.
The Funky Fourth parade will be followed by a picnic at the Town Hall with free ice cream and sandwiches as long as they last. At the same time there will be an auction of locally-baked pies to raise money for AWARE, the food pantry and the Greensboro Nursing Home. Auctioneer will be the legendary Tim Nisbet.
At 5:30 p.m., the Mallett Brothers Band will perform with a picnic at Greensboro’s Highland Center for the Arts. The concert is free of charge (donations welcome) and picnic dinners will be available for purchase. Weather permitting the concert will be outdoors, but in case of rain it will be indoors.
Following the Mallett Brothers Band there will be dancing to the hits of the last half century and beyond at the Highland Center for the Arts with Glorious DJ John Schweizer.
