HARDWICK – The Galaxy Bookshop welcomes retired physician Brendan Buckley to talk about his new biography of the late, beloved sports writer Dave Morse on Tuesday, July 18, at 7 p.m., at the Hardwick Town House. Buckley will share some of the stories collected from many of Morse’s friends and family members for his book, “The Morse Code: Legacy of a Vermont Sportswriter.”

Triumph over hardship. Pay it forward. The power of community. These were the moral codes of Dave Morse (1937-2015), a beloved Vermont Sports Hall of Fame journalist who spent 20 years at the Hardwick Gazette writing “The Morse Code,” an all-sports, all-ages column. Brendan Buckley’s new book, “The Morse Code,” chronicles the life of a man whose contributions to the youth of a small community echo across the Green Mountains today. Morse was a widely respected reporter, and an ever-willing conversationalist, yet few readers know the obstacles he faced. He overcame trauma and heartbreak to be admired for his empathy, kindness, and generosity to all who knew him. Morse’s lasting legacy as the heart of Vermont sports lives on in “The Morse Code: Legacy of a Vermont Sportswriter.” This event is free and open to the public.
