Spaulding Contingent Captures Hazen Summer League Title

HARDWICK – The Lyndon-Spaulding team consisting of mostly Crimson Tide alum, defeated the Bagley Boys last Thursday night at the “Cat Den” to capture the fifteenth annual Hazen Basketball Summer League title.
Tavarius Vance led all scorers with 29 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to help Lyndon-Spaulding cruise to a 101-75 championship victory in their first season in the league. Cooper Diego was also tough to handle, pouring in 27 points, dishing out a game-high 13 assists, and collecting nine boards on the night. Riley Severy added 22 points and 10 rebounds in the win. Vance, Diego, Severy, and Isaac Davis graduated from Spaulding last spring after leading the Crimson Tide to 43 wins the past two seasons, including a pair of trips to the Division II Final Four.
Vance and Davis will be taking their talents to the VTSU-Lyndon men’s basketball team this coming winter. 2022 Spaulding graduate Isaiah Terrill was also on the championship roster and will be entering his sophomore year for the Hornets this season. Rounding out the summer league roster were Aiden Trapani, James Salvas, Taylor Dugs, Marcus Thornton, Ari Schumacher, and Yvonne Roberge. Trapani will be a senior for the Hornets this coming winter and Salvas is a Peoples Academy graduate, who will be a senior on the Hornet’s men’s tennis team next spring. He is also an assistant to the men’s basketball team and the voice of VTSU-Lyndon basketball. Roberge graduated from Spaulding this past spring after leading the Lady Crimson Tide to back-to-back Division II state title games under former Hazen Union head coach Tanya McAuley.
Recent Hazen grad Tyler Rivard led the Bagley Boys with 27 points and 18 rebounds and Cale Bagley added 24 points in the loss. Rivard led the Wildcats to a 2022 Division III state championship and is the only player in program history to finish his high school career with over 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. Earlier this summer, the Burlington Free Press named Rivard Vermont’s Athlete of the Year.
