On August 7, at approximately 2:10 p.m., the Hardwick Police were advised of a burglary at the Inn by the River where copper piping and various other items were being taken apart and taken. The owner of the inn caught the suspect in the act and the suspect then fled towards the town of Hardwick. The suspect was later identified as Jonathan Laverpool, of Hardwick. He was arrested and cited into Caledonia District Court on September 25 for burglary.

On August 28, at approximately 2:43 p.m., Hardwick Police responded to a minor motor vehicle vs. bicycle crash on North Main Street near the entrance to the Hardwick Electric Department’s main office. Zachary Foster, of Woodbury, was attempting to turn left into the parking lot when his 2016 Chevrolet pick-up was struck by a bicycle traveling south on N. Main St. Foster’s pick-up received minor damage to the passenger side rear fender. A 13-year-old male operating the bicycle received a concussion and other minor cuts and bruises.

On August 31, at 8:08 a.m., police received a report of an accident in the parking lot of the Village Diner. Picker was operating her 2019 Honda Fit when she backed into a garbage truck and broke her rear window. No damage to the garbage truck and it had left prior to my arrival.

On Tuesday, August 29, House of Pizza owner Michelle Demers called to report Casandra Rich had stolen the employee’s tip jar on Saturday night. She advised they caught Rich doing this on their security camera.

On Tuesday, August 29, Amy Bolio and Stephen Rich reported they allowed Casandra Rich to stay with them for a couple of days in their Hardwick home. Bolio reported that they left Rich alone in the house for a short period of time. When they returned, she was gone and they noticed money and a large amount of change missing. Hardwick Police learned Rich was identified depositing change into a CoinStar machine on August 29 at 11:39 a.m. Hardwick Officer George Sheldrick met with Rich. She admitted to stealing the tip jar from Hardwick House of Pizza and also stealing the money from Bolio.

The Hardwick House of Pizza and Bolio declined to have Rich prosecuted; however, they both requested that Rich not be allowed to be on their property any more.

On August 21 Michael McGlynn, of Woodbury, reported that his vehicle had been hit the previous day while parked on S. Main Street in Hardwick between the hours of 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. There was damage to the left rear quarter panel on his 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander. No one reported seeing the accident.
