New CCSU Lady Bears Team Falls to Richford

DANVILLE- Richford spoiled the Danville-Twinfield-Cabot (CCSU) girls’ soccer team’s home opener last week, dropping them to 0-2 on the season.
Super sophomore Kyrielle Deuso poured in four goals to power Richford to a 6-1 road win over CCSU last Wednesday. Deuso buried a feed from Katelyn Doe nine minutes into the match to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Eliska Siebenbrunner answered for the Lady Bears 11 minutes later on a feed from Lauren Joncas to even the match at 1-1.
Hannah Marlow assisted Deuso with 10 minutes left in the half to give Richford a 2-1 advantage.
Eighth grader Jazmine Cunningham converted a penalty kick three minutes into the second half for her first ever varsity goal, giving the Lady Rockets a two-goal cushion.
“The penalty kick for Richford to start the second half really changed the momentum of the match. Despite being down a goal, we were in pretty good shape up until that point,” said head coach Spencer Morse.

Deuso would continue her onslaught, scoring two more times in the next 30 minutes off of feeds from Madison Smith and Madison Deuso to make it 5-1.
Katelyn Doe assisted Brooklyn Letourneau with six minutes left in regulation to end the scoring on the day.
Leah Klark made eight saves in the loss for the Lady Bears. Vanessa Terrier made 10 stops for Richford as they improved to 2-1. Richford won 10 games in 2022 and look poised to make another deep run in the Division IV playoffs later this fall.
“We just had no answer for Deuso today. Richford was more hungry than us around the goal. We had our scoring chances, but need to continue to work on that drive to finish,” said Morse.
Morse is still molding his new CCSU team made up of players from Danville, Twinfield, and Cabot two matches in. It is the inaugural season of the newly agreed cooperative between the three schools. Morse has added depth to his roster with the additions of All Mountain League selections Alice McLane, Ida Astick, and Camryn Hoffman from Twinfield-Cabot, but molding that talent into a team will most definitely take some time. CCSU’s season opener against BFA-Fairfax was suspended after just 40 minutes due to extreme weather, so his new squad has yet to play two full matches together in their young season.
The Lady Bears were scheduled to host Blue Mountain on Tuesday and will hit the road for a match-up against Oxbow on Friday.
