Hardwick Police Report
On September 19, at 9:12 a.m., police responded to a report of a two-car accident with no injuries, at the intersection of S. Main St. and Wolcott St. Upon arrival, police located the cars in The Village Diner parking lot. The operators were out of the vehicles. A 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, operated by Nathan Piangerelli, of Hardwick, was entering the intersection coming northbound turning onto Wolcott St. and was hit by a 2020 Honda Odyssey, operated by Bert Smith, of Hardwick, heading southbound on S. Main St. The vehicles received moderate damage and there were no injuries.
On September 20, at 8:17 a.m., Elsie Patoine, of Walden, called dispatch to advise her business property, The Moosehorn Cafe, had been broken into again.
Upon arrival police met with Patoine, who advised the business had been broken into sometime between 2 p.m. the day before and 8 a.m. A shelf was removed from a display case and a club, hand made from a tree burl, was also removed. This was the second time this month the business had been broken into.
A potentially valuable item was left at the scene which may belong to the offender. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Hardwick Police Department.
On September 22 at 3:54 p.m., Hardwick Police came upon a two-car accident with no injuries. A 2009 Honda CRV, operated by Anna Berger, of Dorset, was southbound on Craftsbury Road and stopped at the stop sign. When the temporary traffic light at the bridge construction on Rte. 15 turned green, Berger proceeded to turn left onto Rte. 15 heading east. Kathryn Joy, of East Calais, driving a 2021 Toyota Highlander was east bound on Rte. 15 and turned left to go north on Craftsbury road. She was in the intersection when Berger collided with the rear driver’s side door. The front bumper was taken off the CRV in the crash.
On September 23 at approximately 1:40 p.m., Alain Fradette of Hardwick was observed operating a tan Acura MDX on Rte. 4 in the town of Hardwick. He was stopped by Hardwick Police in the Dollar General parking lot. The vehicle was unregistered and uninsured. Fradette was arrested for an outstanding warrant out of Caledonia County and also for operating with a suspended driver’s license. Fradette was transported to Hardwick Police Department for processing and issued a citation to appear in Caledonia Superior Court, Criminal Division on October 30 for operation with a suspended license. He was then transported to Northeast Regional Correctional Facility in St. Johnsbury for the outstanding arrest warrant.
