The Vermont State Police are investigating a report of a threatening email targeting Twinfield Union School in Plainfield. Just after 8 a.m., on Thursday, September 28, Vermont State Police were notified that during the overnight hours, an unknown individual had sent an email to a faculty member of the school. The email, which was discovered shortly before the report was made, referenced a shooting at the school to be carried out at a future date.
The Vermont State Police takes all reports of school threats seriously and troopers from the Berlin Field Station responded to the school. Upon arrival, nothing was found to be amiss and troopers coordinated with school officials. The school remained open with modified operations. troopers maintained a presence at the school for most of the day and no further incidents occurred.
Investigation into the origin of the email remains ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident is asking to contact the VSP Berlin Barracks at (802) 229-9191 or provide an anonymous tip online at vsp.vermont.gov/tipsubmit.

On August 23, at 12:27 p.m., the Vermont State Police received a report of a fraud that occurred on August 10 and 11. Subsequent investigation indicated that Jocelyn Severson, of Wesley Chapel, Fla., had gained access to the business email account of Jean Lacroix, of Calais, and requested a payment from the owner’s accountant to herself in the amount of $16,000. Jean Lacroix’s accountant, thinking the request was from Jean, made the payment to Severson. Severson was issued a citation to appear in court at a later date to answer to the charges of Identity Theft and Grand Larceny.
On October 1, at approximately 7:44 p.m., a trooper with the Vermont State Police was traveling south on I-89 in the town of South Burlington. While the trooper was traveling south, a white pickup truck, also traveling south, was observed following an unrelated vehicle too closely in the left lane. The unrelated vehicle then merged into the right lane and the white pickup truck increased its speed to 97 mph in a posted 55 mph speed limit zone. A traffic stop was initiated and the operator was identified as Justin Bertrand, of Wolcott. Bertrand was issued a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint for speeding with a waiver penalty of $620 and was released with a citation to answer the charge of Negligent Operation at a later date and time.
