Bedded Pack Barn Workshop Features Minnesota Expert
BURLINGTON – A Minnesota expert in dairy cattle production and herd health will present a free workshop on bedded pack barns for dairy and livestock producers on two separate dates in October.
Dr. Marcia Endres, a University of Minnesota animal sciences professor, will discuss the benefits, challenges and management best practices to consider when planning a bedded pack barn for milkers, dry cows and heifers. She will be joined by Bob Thompson, who will share information about bedded pack management in Vermont, as well as financial support programs available to farmers. Thompson is the state conservation engineer with the Natural Resources Conservation Service’s (NRCS) Vermont office.
The workshops will be held on October 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Stony Pond Farm, 336 Emch Road, Fairfield, and October 26, from noon to 2 p.m., at Deer Flats Farm, 1290 Vt. 30, Pawlet.
Preregistration is required. To register for either workshop, go to go.uvm.edu/beddedpackbarns. Attendance at the workshop fulfills NRCS’s bedded pack training requirement to apply for funding for bedded pack barns.
